Celebration OBGYN is pleased to announce that Kanisha Sierra-Rios, MD joined our practice in October 2017.
Dr. Sierra-Rios was born and raised in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to a close-knit family, being the youngest of four girls. She attended Catholic School from kindergarten through high school and received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. Later she attended Ponce School of Medicine for her medical degree and the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine to complete her residency. During her residency, she was awarded the “Recognition of Excellence on Minimally Invasive Surgery” by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists.
After arriving to the Hospital San Pablo in Bayamon, Dr. Sierra noticed the need for the humanization of the delivery process and the high cesarean section rate. Her flagship project was the Humanized Birth Program which focuses on decreasing the C-section rate by empowering pregnant patients who previously had no input regarding her care, by adding doulas to the OB team to work as advocates for the patient. She believes that there is no other specialty that offered her the privilege to care for women throughout all the stages of her life. Having the opportunity to be a surgeon and a primary care physician at the same time, is something that gives her great passion to provide exceptional care for her patients.
In her personal time, Dr. Sierra-Rios enjoys spending time with her husband of five years Jose. They enjoy the beach, golfing, traveling, music, food and family.
“I come from a tiny island in the Caribbean with 3.5 million people. Starting our lives in Florida allowed us to feel the same warmth and comfort we used to get back home but where I could further develop my career and skills being surrounded by such a talented team. I am excited to share my love and passion with every single one of my patients.” -Dr. Sierra-Rios

More than just SPF tips for your Summer Skin Care
Ladies, I have a gift for you this May- the start of our summer season… We all know that we should take good care of our skin and protect it from the summer sunshine. “Do not go out between 10 am and 2 pm when the rays are the most damaging…” and “ Be sure to reapply your sunscreen every few hours…” are a couple of rules ingrained in our minds, right?
But, did you know this? (Here’s the gift part… FYI)
Use lip balm that have at least SPF 15. (Do not use gloss with shine because it can act as a magnifying glass!)
Sunscreen pads are awesome for application of sunscreen on your face, hairline, ears and neck. (I had NO IDEA these existed… )
Try extra layering with your sunscreen. For example, BEFORE applying your sunscreen, have you thought about applying a Vitamin C serum or one with green tea extract for antioxidant power?. THEN, apply your first layer of sunscreen (at least SPF 30). When reapplying, try a powder sunscreen such as Peter Thomas Roth Instant Mineral SPF45 ($30) so you don’t get “extra shiny.”
Hydration, hydration, hydration. Try serums that help provide hydration for your skin. All the skin lines carry them and do provide that extra to keep your skin supple and soft.
Night time masks are a great way to soothe the skin after an afternoon at the pool or at the beach.
*** Don’t forget to check the expiration dates on your lotions and to apply 20 minutes before you go outside.***
I was just happy to put the correct SPF sunscreen on my skin and NOW we all have the knowledge to use powder, balms, masks, and serums… wow!!! Now, we have more in our beauty bag to help us continue having healthy, young looking skin! Woo-hoo!!!
